Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about practicing with rehearseMD.

What is rehearseMD?

rehearseMD is a voice-first medical training platform that helps medical students practice clinical encounters with AI-powered simulated patients. You can practice history-taking, communication skills, and prepare for OSCE exams by having realistic voice conversations with virtual patients presenting various clinical scenarios.

How does the AI patient simulation work?

Our AI patients are powered by advanced language models trained on medical scenarios. When you start a case, you speak directly to the patient using your microphone. The AI responds with realistic patient dialogue based on the clinical scenario, including appropriate symptoms, concerns, and personality traits. The conversation flows naturally, just like speaking with a real standardized patient.

What types of cases can I practice?

We offer a variety of clinical cases across multiple specialties including Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and more. Cases range from common presentations like chest pain and abdominal pain to specialized scenarios. Each case is designed to test specific clinical skills and covers beginner to advanced difficulty levels.

Is rehearseMD free to use?

rehearseMD offers a free tier that includes 5 practice sessions to start, with 1 additional session added each week (up to a maximum of 2 stored credits). For unlimited sessions and detailed scoring, you can upgrade to RehearseMD Pro for $0.99/month. No payment information is required to use the free tier.

How is my performance scored?

After each session, you receive a comprehensive score based on multiple factors: thoroughness of history-taking (did you cover the key elements?), communication quality (empathy, clarity, professionalism), clinical reasoning (appropriate questions and logical flow), and time management. You also get a detailed transcript to review your conversation.

What medical specialties are available?

We currently offer cases in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, and more. We regularly add new cases and specialties based on student needs and curriculum requirements. Each specialty includes cases representing common clinical presentations you'll encounter in exams and practice.

How is practicing with rehearseMD different from reading case studies?

Reading cases is passive learning - you see the questions and answers laid out. With rehearseMD, you actively conduct the interview, deciding which questions to ask and in what order. This active recall and real-time decision making mirrors actual clinical encounters and OSCE stations, building muscle memory and confidence you can't get from reading alone.

How should I use rehearseMD to prepare for OSCE exams?

We recommend practicing regularly in the weeks leading up to your exam. Start with cases in your weaker areas, focus on developing a systematic approach to history-taking, and use the feedback to identify gaps. Practice under timed conditions to build stamina. Review your transcripts to spot patterns like missed questions or communication issues.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

You can manage or cancel your RehearseMD Pro subscription at any time by going to your Apple ID Settings → Subscriptions. To avoid being charged for the next billing period, cancel at least 24 hours before your current period ends.

What happens to my progress if I cancel?

All of your progress, scores, and session history are kept even if you cancel your subscription. You'll simply return to the free tier with limited sessions. You can re-subscribe at any time to regain unlimited access.

Is my data and conversation history private?

Yes, we take privacy seriously. Your session recordings and transcripts are stored securely and are only accessible to you. We do not share individual user data with third parties. Our platform is designed for educational use, and we follow best practices for data protection.

What devices and browsers are supported?

rehearseMD works on modern web browsers including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on both desktop and mobile devices. For the best experience, we recommend using Chrome or Safari with a good microphone. Mobile devices work great for practice on the go - just ensure you're in a quiet environment for optimal voice recognition.
